Documenting a Day 

There are various tools technical tools used today to help individuals complete their assignments. Some of the most notable tools are Word Processors, Spreadsheets, and Presentation documents. In the following paper I will explain how each of these programs are essential in completing tasks in our everyday lives.

Comparing Functions- Each one of these programs have different functions that make them unique. Word processors like Microsoft Word, these programs specialize in helping the user format and store textual information in a document (Vahid & Lasicky, 2019). Spreadsheet programs focus in a different area. By creating tables and charts spreadsheet applications like excel specialize in storing data for users (Vahid & Lasicky, 2019). Presentation apps can store both data and textual information. However, these applications focus more on entertaining the audience from a visual stand point by adding images and animations to information in their documents (Vahid & Lasicky, 2019). Database applications store tons of data. A common example of how a database system may be used is by tracking and maintaining accurate inventory records (Vahid & Lasicky, 2019).

Advantages/Disadvantages of each application- An advantage of word processors is the icon features located in the toolbar on top of the page. This makes it easy for the user to navigate and format the information in their documents. A disadvantage of a word processor is that it contains mostly textual information. This type of information can be dry and struggle to grsp and audiences’ attention. An advantage of spreadsheets is its ability to store and organize data. The ability formulate data from complex calculations in a short amount of time make spreadsheet applications like excel a great tool to use in our professional environment (Career Insights, 2018). There is a disadvantage to these applications though. A disadvantage of spreadsheet applications is that since data is getting stored manually it is more prone to errors (Lavelle, 2024). When it comes to Presentation applications an advantage these documents have is how creative you can get with storing data. Implementing still images and different animations make working on projects more entertaining for users. You could also argue that the creative nature of these applications may also be disadvantages as well. Personally, I found myself losing focus by trying to figure out the best animation and template to choose from while making my presentation slideshow.

Appropriate Application- Personally, I would recommend the spreadsheet application Microsoft excel to document information about your day. Downloading the appropriate template is very simple and formulating the equations in the spreadsheet cells provide a quick way for you to see where percentages of your day are being spent without having to do too much calculation.

Additional Scenario- An additional scenario where you could use this application would be through storing sports data. By Formulating equations in spreadsheets these can help executives of sports franchises determine the strengths and weaknesses of their players by displaying percentages in various areas.
